The best time of the year is here!
After months of getting excited over things like the release of the 2022 schedule and training camp, finally we witness the return of the New York Football Giants! If you’re a diehard you probably slept like Christmas eve as a kid and could barely keep your eyes closed in anticipation to open presents (kickoff.)
Yes, every Giants fan alive is well aware of the team we have. We are well aware that we begin our fourth “New era” in the last decade. The beginning of the Schoen and Daboll era brings an enormous amount of optimism from New York Giants fans. Even the most pessimistic of fans can’t help but have one foot in the door with a wait and see attitude. For good reason. Both GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll bring a trail of success with them to MetLife, after each having a hand in the success of the Buffalo Bills in recent years.
When the Giants walked out of the 2022 NFL Draft they unanimously were praised as the winners of the first round with the selections of generational pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and future All-Pro tackle Evan Neal. We as Giants fans had seen enough. We were no longer in Dave Gettleman's role-playing fantasy as a competent GM.
It continued all summer as we have witnessed the front office do a successful job in navigating the failure invested waters the previous regime left behind.
Some decisions like cutting fan favorite Blake Martinez were not easy. Make no mistake this regime is going to see a few more days of rough waters ahead, but this ship is staying its course. These are not the ramblings of a delusional fan who thinks every year is our year. The feeling is mutual. Giants fans collectively feel this team is finally in good hands with the right vision to turn a once proud franchise out of a Jersey landfill.
The biggest anchor holding the team back the last few seasons has been the play of the abysmal offensive line. Through free agency and the NFL draft the Giants have finally, on paper, turned an area of concern into a possible strength.
For Daniel Jones this gives him by far his best chance to prove he’s earned the right to be here in a make or break season. Jones will also have to prove he can stay on the field and play smarter in the pocket that will finally exist this season. While Jones is afforded the unheard of circumstances of being a top 10 drafted quarterback who has had 3 head coaches and 4 offensive coordinators in 4 seasons, if the team stays healthy he will have his destiny in his own hands.
We have plenty of questions. What Saquon shows up? Is Kadarius Toney the real deal? What will this defense look like? Is this the season that Kenny Golladay learns that he has human hands?
Point is we know who we are. We know who we're not and we know what we have to do to get to where we want to be.
Despite those questions and valid concerns surrounding the 2022 New York Giants, it doesn’t mean that you can’t be absolutely out of your mind today with excitement for the Sunday’s we’ve waited all year for. Week 1 in the NFL is the definition of optimism. A Giants or Jaguars fan can have the same optimism and dreams as every other fan base before kickoff, even if those dreams become nightmares just three hours later.
I’m guilty of being the guardian of Giants fandom. I often question the loyalty of others who seemingly show no pride or faith in their beloved Big Blue! I only do this because not believing in the New York Football Giants is absolutely foreign to me. From my shoes I've seen so many ups and downs in my near 40 years of watching this team. From the loss of the 90s to the highs of the mid - 2000’s I can honestly say I've seen every unimaginable high and low through that span. This franchise embodies perseverance and toughness.
Being a New York Giants fan will break your heart more often than it will fulfill it. But every die-hard fan sitting here today on opening day knows that that heart is pumping full of blue blood. It’s September. Last season is just a part of history and now 53 New York Giants will get the chance to decide how history will remember this season. No matter the outcome from Tennessee today all the way to Week 18 in January, one thing is clear.
The New York Football Giants are going to break your heart this season. They’re going to reach highs and lows over the course of the next five months of the season. But I can promise you the die-hard fan reading this, the faith you have in this franchise will be matched by the hunger from this team to restore Giants Pride in that locker room.
The next chapter of the New Era begins right now…
Let's go!
WERE HERE TO FUCKK SHITT UPP LETS GO GMENNNNNN!!!!!!! 🗽
